This is the first post of what we hope to be an actively read blog by all nordic skiers in the greater Bethel, Maine area. It's been an exciting summer and fall for the Gould Nordic program. Although we are sad to report that Jeremy and Ben have moved onto other pursuits, we are very excited that Tim Whiton will be taking over as head coach of the Gould Academy Nordic program. Tim will be supported by Wade Kavanaugh and Brad Clarke this winter. Under Tim's leadership, the team is hoping to develop a "club" atmosphere. Wade Kavanaugh, who will take on the role of the assistant coach this year at Gould, will also be the club coach for the Bethel Outing Club.
It's our hope that under the umbrella of the "Gould Academy Competition Program" we can support athletes from the the local grade schools (BKL skiers), Gould Academy and Telstar High School (high school racers), and athletes from the Bethel Outing Club (senior and master racers). It should be said that all of these groups have been working together to support cross country skiing in the Bethel area for years, but this year we are hoping to formalize the collaboration, sharing resources and ideas to provide more support for more athletes.
